The Hahn/Hane family is one of the well known farmer families in Värend going back at least 500 years. Several members of the family were Sherrifs and one relative was a Bishop. Karl Hane lived at Furuby Hanagård from the 1540's to 90's and was a Sherrif. Ownership of Hanagård is uncertain until 1635 when Nils Hane became the owner. He owned several other farms in the area as well. Nils had 3 sons, Nils, Måns and Per. Hanagård remained in the family for 3 more generations. On another line of the family, Jonas Hansson was born in 1634 in Lungslund (Bjurbäcken). He was a Hammersmith. His grandson, Adam Hane was a blacksmith at the Lessebo iron works in Hovmantorp. In the minutes of the parish council of Furuby (sockenstämmoprotokoll) for Dec 29, 1759 it is recorded that the people were asked if they wanted to employ the young man Elias Hane (Adam Hane's son), who had played the organ some times, as their vestryman (klockare) and organ-player. The people said yes, and it was decided that he should have a quarter of a bushel of grain of each household as his salary this year. Elias married Sara Olofsdotter, the Great Granddaughter of Nils Nilsson Hane and they lived at Hanagård. Elias arrived in Furuby about the same time as Nils Bengtsson and they seem to have been good friends. Elias' daughter Christina married Nils' son Anders. Elias continued as vestryman and organplayer until around 1795 when his son Peter Olof took over. Peter Olof lived at Hanagård and was an important person in the parish. Most of Anders Nilsson's sons, including Nils Daniel, worked as farmhands at Hanagård as they were growing up. |
